DESCRIPTION:Historic Lighting & Hand-Dipped Candle Workshop\nSaturday\, February 28 | 10:00 AM–2:00 PM\nCost: $45 per person \nStep back in time and explore how people lit their homes before electricity in this hands-on historic lighting workshop. Participants will learn about traditional lighting methods and the role candles played in everyday life while creating their own hand-dipped taper candles. \nThe workshop will cover historic approaches to measuring and preparing wax\, followed by guided instruction in dipping taper candles using methods similar to those practiced in the past. Participants will also learn how to properly finish and care for their candles so they can be safely used at home. \nNo prior experience is necessary. All materials are provided\, and each participant will leave with a set of handmade candles and a deeper understanding of historic household lighting. Participants should bring a lunch. Using original equipment and time-honored techniques\, Meckley Brooms combines functional craftsmanship with whimsical designs—bringing both history and hands-on fun to this workshop. \nThanks to the Poconos Free Art and Craft Workshops Fund\, these workshops are free and open to the public for participants ages 15 and older\, offering a unique opportunity for Monroe County residents to explore historic handcrafts\, learn new skills\, and take home their own handmade brooms. DESCRIPTION:Our Spring Homeschool Tour Day allows homeschool families to explore our 19th Century Homestead in greater detail than a regular Spring Field Trip. With their admission\, students and their families will be able to visit first-person interpreters stationed around the farm. From hearth cooking to animal care\, there’s sure to be something to interest everyone. We will also have timed demonstrations throughout the day. Start the day with fire-starting\, learn about simple machines on the farm\, or join us for a nature walk to the pond. Bring a lunch and enjoy it in the shade of our pavilion.
