In this beginner-friendly class\, participants will learn foundational weaving techniques while creating a functional and seasonal basket. \nEach participant will craft a 9″ x 9″ spring basket with a swing handle\, perfect for Easter celebrations\, picnics\, or everyday use. Instruction will cover basic basket-making skills\, materials\, and form\, with step-by-step guidance throughout the process. No prior basketry experience is required. \nThis workshop is designed for participants ages 15 and older and is well suited for those interested in traditional handcrafts\, seasonal projects\, or learning a new skill in a supportive setting. DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this workshop is to assist volunteers in creating their own period dress for volunteering at Quiet Valley. This workshop will focus on the early period (1820s) costume and is appropriate for most volunteer opportunities at Quiet Valley. Participants will provide all their own materials (see list below). If you have your own sewing machine\, please bring it along. A suggested donation to our Educational Scholarship Fund of $10 per participant is appreciated. This money helps make workshops and camps more affordable to participants. DESCRIPTION:Our Spring Homeschool Tour Day allows homeschool families to explore our 19th Century Homestead in greater detail than a regular Spring Field Trip. With their admission\, students and their families will be able to visit first-person interpreters stationed around the farm. From hearth cooking to animal care\, there’s sure to be something to interest everyone. We will also have timed demonstrations throughout the day. Start the day with fire-starting\, learn about simple machines on the farm\, or join us for a nature walk to the pond. Bring a lunch and enjoy it in the shade of our pavilion. Space is limited\, and advanced tickets are required.
